The title is pretty much a giveaway, right? Let’s face it – if you sleep in the bus on a regular basis, it’s bound to happen to you. I happened to me. ;p
To start off, I believe I have already mentioned in a previous post that I almost always sleep in the bus. Heck, I almost always sleep anywhere. During a long trip home inside the bus is one of the perfect spots to sleep for me. Not only do I have time, but I also don’t have anything else to do inside the bus.
Oversleeping is a problem that I knew I would have to face even before I started going to college. What makes this particularly interesting as compared to oversleeping in other cases is the fact that the the bus is moving. If I oversleep at home, the worst that could happen it that I become late or even miss class altogether. There’s not much excitement there, right? If I oversleep in class, the worst thing that could happen is that I wake up in a totally different class with a totally different set of classmates. It’s embarrassing, but still not very exciting.
Now, oversleeping in the bus is a different story. Just imagine if I oversleep sleep in the bus. The worst thing that could happen is that I get woken up by the conductor when I’m already at the terminal. Sure, it’s okay to wake up in the Lawton bus terminal, but what about on the other terminal? What if I rode on a Tagaytay-bound bus? How crazy will it be to wake up in Tagaytay? It’s both exciting and freaky.
Anyway, I overslept in the bus more than a couple of times already. Allow me to list the top 3 that happend:

The number 3 spot goes to my bus ride home one clear and boring day. I felt very sleepy that whole day. I don’t know if I’m especially sleepy that day or I’m in my normal state of always being sleepy. Anyway, I got a ride home via a bus that passed in Quirino. Unfortunately, the bus was full so I had to stand up. It’s not easy to stand up especially when you’re sleepy. I remember almost falling to the bus floor because I fell asleep while standing up (If you know me, you know that I can sleep in any position). Anyway, about half-way throught the journey, I finally got a seat. I sank myself in the soft bus seat and slept almost immediately afterwards.
I the past few days, I always got lucky by waking up right when I’m about to get off the bus. That day, my luck faded. I would wake up every now and then only to find out that I’m still a bit far off from my destination. On my last look, I was close to where I would get off, but I reckoned I could still get a couple of minutes of sleep. That couple of minutes turned out to be more than I could allow. When I woke up, I saw that I was already past my drop-pff point. Luckily, I was off at about 50 meters from the target location. It’s not very far off, but I knew that one day I would be so lucky. I simply walked my way back.

Number 2 goes to my bus ride school one normal day. It was on the 3rd term of my freshman year. My class starts at 8 am. I usually get to school at about 7 am. Anyway, the night prior to that day, I did a lot of activities and other stuff that kept me up all night. In short, I was short on sleep. Of course, I used the bus ride to school to my advantage. Like I said before, I usually get a seat on my trip to school, and that day was no different.
I slept and I slept and I slept, but I still felt sleepy. A few meters from DLSU, I tried once again to get a last minute power nap. The power nap, however, led to a slumber that only ended when I was already in PCU. I don’t know how far it is from DLSU, but I can say that from where I got off, I couldn’t see DLSU in the horizon. I think it’s more or less than 500 meters from DLSU.
So, did I ride a jeepney back to DLSU? If you knoe me, you should know that no, I didn’t. First, it wouldn’t be as fun as walking my way back. Second, I’m cheap and I don’t want to waste 8 pesos on something I could’ve done for free. :p
Anyway, so I walked my way back to DLSU. it took me about 10 minutes to get back there. I was sweaty and tired, but it was a great experience. 🙂

The number one spot goes to non other than a certain bus ride home. To make things quick, I’ll tell you that it’s just like the number 3. The only difference is that I slept a little longer and got of at Robinson’s.
What’s cool is that number 2 seems to be farther than number 1, but an extra thing made this the number 1.
Robinson’s is just about 300 meters from Imus Toll Bridge (or 7/11). I sometimes get off there, but it’s farther than my usually get-off point, which is the Imus-Bacoor cross-over point (the area is called Nawasa by conductors). From Robinson’s to Nawasa is definitely more than 1000 meters, so I just went to Imus. Anyway, I walked back from Robinson’s to Imus. From there, I could’ve taken a tricycle ride home, but of course that is just not like me to take tricycle rides home.
Since it’s still early, I just walked my way home. From Imus to my house is about 1000 meters. So, essentially, I walked 300+1000 meters that day. That was fun, right?
Anyway, that’s it about overlseeping in the bus. Nowadays, it doesn’t happen as often. In fact, I don’t recall oversleeping in the bus since I became a sophomore. I don’t know if I have adapted or I just haven’t been sleeping enough in the bus. Either way, I’m happy that I don’t oversleep anymore. 🙂
